How does PDF compression work without uploading my file?
The tool opens the PDF in your browser and re-encodes its embedded images at lower quality and resolution - the usual source of PDF bloat - then rebuilds the file. Nothing is sent to a server; the document never leaves your device.
Why did my PDF barely shrink?
Balanced mode only recompresses images, so a text-only PDF that is already optimized has little to give. Maximum mode converts each page to an image and always shrinks large files, but the text stops being selectable - use it when size matters more than searchability.
Will compressing reduce the quality of my document?
Images are re-encoded at a quality level tuned to look unchanged on screen; text and vector content are untouched in balanced mode. For print-critical documents, keep the original file and use the compressed copy for sharing.
