Is 500KB enough for a multi-page scanned contract?
Usually, yes. Around ten scanned pages fit comfortably under 500KB at a quality where clauses, signatures, and initials remain clearly readable. Very long contracts may need a lower per-page quality to fit, so review the output, or split the document and compress it in parts.
Does compressing a signed contract change its contents?
No. Compression re-encodes the images of the pages at a lower quality, but the wording, layout, signatures, and page order are untouched. Note that a compressed scan is a visual copy - if the file carries a cryptographic digital signature, that signature will no longer validate.
